We are adding character validation to the free-text fields message and transactionText for Nordea (Personal and Business) in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland. It covers domestic, invoice and SEPA payments.
Today, these fields are stripped of diacritics before the payment is sent to Nordea (e.g. å becomes a). After this change, our API will check these fields first and reject unsupported characters with a validation error. The existing maximum lengths for these fields stay the same.
Denmark and Norway (DK_Nordea, DK_NordeaErhverv, NO_Nordea, NO_NordeaBedrift)
Supported characters include: a–z, A–Z, 0–9, Scandinavian letters (å, ä, ö, æ, ø and uppercase variants), currency symbols (€ $ £ ₤), common punctuation (. , / : - + ' " \), and whitespace. The field must not start with a whitespace. This will be enforced with the following regex:
"^[A-Za-z0-9åÅäöÄÖæøÆØ€$£₤.,/:+'\"\\\\\\-][A-Za-z0-9åÅäöÄÖæøÆØ€$£₤.,/:+'"\\\- ]*$"
Sweden and Finland (SE_Nordea, SE_NordeaForetag, FI_Nordea, FI_NordeaBusiness)
Supported characters include: a–z, A–Z, 0–9, Swedish/Finnish letters (å, ä, ö and uppercase variants), currency symbols (€ $ £ ₤), common punctuation (. , / : - + ' " \ ;), and whitespace. The field must not start with a whitespace. This will be enforced with the following regex:
"^[A-Za-z0-9åÅäöÄÖ€$£₤.,/:+'\"\\\\;\\-][A-Za-z0-9åÅäöÄÖ€$£₤.,/:+'"\\;\- ]*$"
These rules will apply from 29 September 2026.
